Everything that needs a machine shop
The hard part of a van conversion is not the assembly — it is the drawing and the cutting. Getting a bed platform, a galley and a water system to coexist in a small van takes millimetre accuracy, and a circular saw in a driveway will not deliver it.
So we do that part. Your kit arrives as a flat stack of labelled, CNC-cut panels with every hole already drilled, every edge already finished, and all the hardware in one box. Nothing to measure, nothing to cut, nothing to work out.

How a conversion kit goes together
Tell us your van
Make, model, year and wheelbase. We confirm which kit fits and talk through layout options before you order anything.
We cut your kit
Your panels are machined to order in New Zealand, labelled and flat-packed with the hardware.
Collect or have it freighted
Pick it up from our Auckland workshop, or we arrange freight anywhere in the country.
Assemble the modules
Follow the instructions and the video. Most people are done in a few hours.
Fit it to your van
The modules are secured to the floor and walls. If you would rather not drill your own van, we can do this part for you.
Add your systems and certify
Water, power, ventilation and a fixed toilet, then book your self-containment inspection.
Skill level
Flat-pack furniture. If you have built a bookshelf from a box, you can build this. Nothing needs cutting or measuring on site.
Time
A few hours for someone comfortable with tools; a weekend at an unhurried pace, including fitting it into the van.
Tools
A screwdriver or cordless driver. For fixing the modules into the van you will also want a drill.
Being straight with you
What the kit doesn’t include
Plenty of conversion companies are vague about this and customers find out too late. Here is the honest version: the kit is the cabinetry. It gets you the structure, the storage and the shape of your camper — not a finished, certified vehicle.
You will also need to sort
Insulation and flooring · mattress and upholstery · a permanently fixed cassette toilet · water tanks, pump and plumbing · leisure battery, solar and 12V wiring · roof ventilation · curtains or blinds · a fridge · your self-containment inspection.
Most of these are available from us as add-ons, and we will give you a realistic all-up figure before you start rather than after. If you get partway and decide you would rather we finished it, our Auckland workshop can pick it up from wherever you got to.
Vehicle fit
Vans we convert
Our cabinetry is engineered around New Zealand’s most common conversion vans. Dimensions change between generations and wheelbases, so we always confirm the fit against your exact make, model and year before anything is cut.
Toyota Hiace
The default campervan conversion van in New Zealand, and our primary platform. Long and super-long wheelbase, standard and high roof. Also the Toyota Regius, Granvia and Hiace Super Custom.
Nissan NV350 & Caravan
Very close to the Hiace in footprint and the second most converted van here. Same layouts apply with minor changes to the cabinetry.
People movers & mid-size vans
Toyota Alphard, Nissan Elgrand, LDV G10 and similar. Tighter, so layouts are more compact — ask us and we will tell you honestly what will fit.
Larger vans, motorhomes and RVs
Our kits are designed for small and mid-size vans. If you are converting a long-wheelbase Sprinter, Ford Transit or LDV Deliver 9, or fitting out a bus or coachbuilt motorhome, talk to us anyway — Nomado is New Zealand’s exclusive distributor for Malibu of Germany and Wingamm of Italy, so larger-vehicle work is familiar territory even where a standard kit does not apply.

Will your campervan conversion kit fit my van?
Our kits are engineered around the Toyota Hiace and comparable small to mid-size vans, including the Nissan NV350. Because dimensions vary between generations and wheelbases, we confirm the fit against your exact make, model and year before you order. Send us those three things and we will tell you honestly, including if the answer is no.
How much does a DIY campervan conversion kit cost?
Price on enquiry. Kit pricing depends on the layout and which add-ons you want, and we would rather quote you properly than publish a number that turns out not to include half of what you need. Ask us and you will get a full breakdown, including the parts you would buy elsewhere.
Do I need to be a builder to assemble it?
No. Everything is cut, drilled and labelled. Assembly is screwdriver work — if you have built flat-pack furniture from a box you will be fine. The only step that makes people nervous is drilling into their own van to secure the modules, and we are happy to do that part in our Auckland workshop.
How long does the kit take to build?
A few hours for someone comfortable with tools. We would suggest giving it a relaxed weekend including fitting the modules into the van, so nothing is rushed.
Will the kit pass self-containment certification?
The kit is designed to accommodate everything a green warrant inspection looks for, including a permanently fixed toilet, plumbed fresh and grey water, a sink and ventilation. But cabinetry alone cannot be certified — you need those systems installed and then an inspection by an authority appointed by the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board. Can I remove the kit if I sell the van?
Yes. The modules are designed to be unbolted and removed, which keeps your options open at resale — or lets you move your fitout into your next van.
Can you assemble or install the kit for me?
Yes, either or both. Plenty of customers buy the kit and have us fit it. If you would rather not touch it at all, look at a full conversion instead.
