The idea
A finished camper, designed around you
Not everyone wants a project. If you would rather spend your weekends travelling than building, we will take your van and hand it back as a complete home on wheels — designed around your height, your gear and the way you actually travel.
You will see the layout drawn before we cut anything, so there are no surprises at handover. And because we build, rent and service campervans and motorhomes every day, the decisions are made on experience rather than guesswork — which appliances survive a New Zealand summer of rental use, which layouts people quietly come to resent.
How we build it
From first call to handover
Every conversion is drawn, machined and fitted by the same Auckland team. You approve a layout before anything is cut, which is the step that keeps surprises out of handover day.
Conversation
We talk through your van, your budget, how many people are sleeping in it and what you need to carry. Bikes and boards change a layout more than people expect.
Design
We draw your layout properly and walk you through it. You approve it before anything is manufactured.
Manufacture
Your cabinetry is cut and built in New Zealand to the approved drawing.
Fitout
Cabinetry fitted, then insulation, flooring, water, 12V and ventilation installed and tested.
Certification
We make sure the build meets what a self-containment inspection looks for and help you get it booked and signed off.
Handover
We walk you through every system before you drive away — and we are still on the end of the phone next season.

Our workshop is in Auckland, which is where full conversions and commercial fit outs are built and where DIY kits can be collected. If you are in Auckland you are welcome to come and see the cabinetry in person before you commit to anything — we would rather you did.
For a flat-pack conversion kit, distance is not an obstacle. Kits are flat-packed specifically so they freight economically, and we send them anywhere in New Zealand — Whangarei to Invercargill, both islands.
For a full conversion or a commercial fit out, your van needs to be with us. Plenty of customers drive up from Waikato and Bay of Plenty, drop the van off and collect it finished.

Full conversion FAQ
How much does a full campervan conversion cost in New Zealand?
Price on enquiry, because scope drives it almost entirely — a bed platform and a galley is a very different job from a fully off-grid, certified build. Tell us what you are picturing and we will give you a realistic range early in the conversation, before anyone spends time on drawings.
Do I need to supply the van?
Usually yes, and it needs to be yours to modify — if it is under finance, check with your lender first. Nomado also sells and sources vehicles, so if you have not bought yet we can help you choose a van that converts well.
Which vans do you work with?
Our focus is the Toyota Hiace and comparable small to mid-size vans, which is where our cabinetry is engineered. We also work with the Nissan NV350, Toyota Regius and Granvia, and people movers. Ask us about anything else and we will tell you if it is a good fit.
Do I have to bring the van to Auckland?
For a full conversion, yes — the van needs to be in our workshop. Customers regularly drive up from Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Northland. If you are further away, talk to us about timing before committing to the trip, or consider a DIY kit which we freight nationwide.
Can I change my mind during the build?
Up to a point. Once panels are cut, changes cost time and material. That is exactly why we get the layout drawn and approved first — it is far cheaper to change a drawing than a cabinet.
Will my conversion be certified self-contained?
We build to meet what the current standard requires — a permanently fixed toilet usable inside the vehicle, compliant fresh and waste water, sink, ventilation and sealed rubbish storage — and we help you get the inspection booked. The certificate itself is issued by an authority appointed by the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board, not by us.
How long is the wait for a build slot?
Build slots are scheduled rather than first-come. Demand rises from late winter as people prepare for summer, so if you want the van ready for December it pays to talk to us well before then.
